Liability and Importance of Providing a correct HTS.

Dear Friends and Customers,

Please be reminded that according to 19 USC 1484 (B), the importer of record is responsible for using reasonable care when filing an entry. This includes but is not limited to providing a correct HTS.

A correct HTS is important not only for calculating the amount of duties and fees to pay but also to determine whether a good might be subject to AD/CVD, quotas, special duties, restrictions or other special requirements.

RL Jones requires importer/exporter to provide a correct 10 digit HTS on invoice and/or database.

Be aware that RL Jones HTS recommendations are advisory only and can be provided after enough research about your product.

Please keep in mind that most of the time, product description on commercial invoice is insufficient in order to provide a reliable recommendation, even if it is an urgent shipment.

To prevent any delays, we highly encourage you to maintain an updated database using the most current version of the HTSUS, updates occur every year and/or after any special initiatives are passed. You may download recent changes every time you need, by visiting:
 https://www.usitc.gov/tata/hts/index.htm

We are always glad to assist in any HTS recommendations you may need.

If you have any question, don’t hesitate on contacting us.

Sincerely,
Compliance Department
