The last few weeks there was much speculation on what actions President Trump was going to take on the first day in office. Yesterday, January 20, 2025, many watched the full coverage of the peaceful transition of power and finally got to witness President Trump’s first actions as President. President Trump had not mentioned duties until about 7:45 pm EST. He was signing Executive Orders while taking questions from reporters.

A reporter asked him about Mexico and Canada duties, and he answered yes. Then the reporter asked him when? He thought and answered nonchalant, “maybe Feb 1st”. Then the reporter asked him how much? He answered 25 % and went on to say that Canada is being bad with flow of Fentanyl. Bottom line is the reporter drew the answers. Trump’s priorities yesterday were not duties. It is not to say they are not coming, but Feb 1st does not seem like a likely date.

President Trump has issued a memorandum outlining an “America First Trade Policy”, which does not immediately impose additional tariffs, but initiates a comprehensive review of all potential actions the U.S. may take against unfair trade practices. Various agency heads will conduct reviews, with recommendations due by April 1. Potential actions could include new tariffs on countries with trade deficits, reciprocal tariffs, bilateral agreements, and a review of existing tariffs on steel, aluminum, and China. Additionally, there will be a delay in the implementation of new regulations, including those concerning section 321 de minimis entries, for 60 days to allow for review by incoming political appointees.

Las últimas semanas hubo mucha especulación sobre qué acciones tomaría el presidente Trump en su primer día en el cargo. Ayer, 20 de enero de 2025, muchos observaron la cobertura completa sobre la transición pacífica de poder y finalmente pudieron ser testigos de las primeras acciones del presidente Trump como mandatario. El presidente Trump no había mencionado ninguna medida hasta aproximadamente las 8:45 p.m., hora del este. Estaba firmando decretos ejecutivos mientras respondía preguntas de los reporteros.

Un reportero le preguntó sobre los aranceles a México y Canadá, y él respondió afirmativamente. Luego el reportero le preguntó ¿Cuándo?
