The following is to inform you that Animal Plant Health Inspection Service’s (APHIS) Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will expand the Risk-Based Sampling at Ports of Entry (RBS POE) program to include new varieties of lettuce arriving at select U.S. ports of entry starting the week of March 31, 2025.

The goals of RBS POE are to reduce inspections on entities importing commodities compliant with current pest and disease regulations and provide incentives for producers to increase the quality of their goods.

The list of RBS POE eligible commodities will include the following:

Expansion of lettuce into specific varieties in RBS POE will allow for a more consistent application of the program’s inspection protocols.

Although this update does not change the entry process or requirements, PPQ and CBP recommend that trade entities file entry as early in the arrival process as possible and include APHIS Core Message Set data to ensure their shipments are processed according to RBS POE procedures.

Lo siguiente es para informarle que la Protección Fitosanitaria y Cuarentena (PPQ, por sus siglas en inglés) del Servicio de Inspección de Sanidad Agropecuaria (APHIS, por sus siglas en inglés) y la Oficina de Aduanas y Protección Fronteriza (CBP, por sus siglas en inglés) del Departamento de Seguridad Nacional de EE.UU. ampliarán el programa de Muestreo Basado en Riesgo en Puertos de Entrada (RBS POE, por sus siglas en inglés) para incluir nuevas variedades de lechuga que lleguen a puertos de entrada selectos de EE.UU. a partir de la semana del 31 de marzo de 2025.

Los objetivos del RBS POE son reducir las inspecciones a las entidades que importan mercancías que cumplen con la normativa vigente sobre plagas y enfermedades y ofrecer incentivos a los productores para que aumenten la calidad de sus mercancías.

La ampliación de la lechuga en variedades específicas en RBS POE permitirá una aplicación más coherente de los protocolos de inspección del programa.

Aunque esta actualización no cambia el proceso o los requisitos de entrada, PPQ y CBP recomiendan que las entidades comerciales presenten la entrada tan pronto como sea posible en el proceso de llegada e incluyan los datos del conjunto de mensajes básicos de APHIS para garantizar que sus envíos se procesen de acuerdo con los procedimientos del POE de RBS.
