FDA Changes to sample collection process for produce shipments

To all FDA regulated importers/exporters of produce shipments:

FDA has verbally notified us that starting today, it will change the way it handles commodities put on hold due to random sampling. In the past, FDA would only put on hold the entry line targeted for sampling. For example, if a shipment contained green onions sizes small, medium and large, as well as radishes and it was targeting green onions size small, it would put on hold green onions size small and therefore release green onions size medium, large and radishes. Under its new procedure put into place today, FDA will put on hold the complete green onion shipment for that specific MID or Grower,  including all three sizes, even though FDA is only targeting green onion size small. The commodity that has been sampled cannot be distributed until FDA Compliance office receives the results from the FDA Lab.

Please feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions or comments.
